Devon Levi’s first Oilers mask is a throwback, and Oil Country noticed in a hurry.
The 24-year-old goalie unveiled his 2026-27 bucket on Thursday, and the design pulls straight from Grant Fuhr. Blue and orange, a clean white shell, and almost none of the clutter that fills most modern masks.
Sylabrush handled the paint. The tell is the orange bar running down the center of the cage, the same detail Fuhr wore through Edmonton’s dynasty years in the 1980s. Jesse Granger posted the photos Thursday night:
Turn it to the side and the OILERS wordmark drips down the panel in blue, outlined against white and orange.
Fuhr is a heavy name to borrow from. He was in net for four of Edmonton’s five Stanley Cups, won the Vezina Trophy in 1987-88 and got the Hockey Hall of Fame call in 2003.
Fan reaction landed on the simplicity. One fan lined it up against the buckets Martin Brodeur, Ed Belfour and Patrick Roy wore and argued modern masks try way too hard:
Levi came over from Buffalo this offseason with 39 NHL games on his resume, a 17-17-2 record and a .894 save percentage. Edmonton is carrying three goalies, with Frederik Andersen and Tristan Jarry ahead of him on paper.
Edmonton’s three-goalie math could shift early. Andersen is not expected back until late October, which lines Levi up for real starts while wearing his tribute to Fuhr.
