Sidney Crosby turned 39 on Friday.
The Penguins captain was born in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia on August 7, 1987, and he walks into his 21st NHL season sitting on 1,761 career points. That puts him 39 shy of 1,800, which is a strange bit of symmetry for a guy who just blew out that many candles.

He earned the milestone talk the hard way last season. Crosby posted 74 points in 68 games in 2025-26, which locked up his 21st straight season at a point per game or better.
Wayne Gretzky owned that record at 19 until Crosby caught him in 2024-25. Two seasons later, it belongs to Crosby by a two-year cushion, and he keeps stretching it every spring.
His climb up the all-time list is where the next year gets fun. Crosby ranks seventh in league history, 10 points behind Marcel Dionne and 37 behind Ron Francis.
Reaching 1,800 would clear both of them and park him fifth all time, with only Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Mark Messier and Gordie Howe ahead of him.

Crosby has 654 goals and 1,107 assists across 1,420 regular season games, plus another 206 points in 186 playoff games and three Stanley Cups. He passed both Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman on the all-time list last season without much fanfare.
So he needs 39 points to hit 1,800. At the pace he set last season, that lands somewhere around game 36, which means Penguins fans could be watching it happen before Christmas.
