Mark Scheifele bailed Canada out of an embarrassing Norway upset.

The Winnipeg Jets center scored 29 seconds into overtime Thursday in Fribourg to complete his hat trick, capping a 6-5 comeback win for Canada at the 2026 IIHF World Championship.

Macklin Celebrini brought the puck in across the blue line, then Evan Bouchard hit Scheifele on the back door for a tap-in finish. Watch the winner:

His four-point night came on the hat trick plus an assist.

Norway came out flying. Eskild Bakke Olsen and Johannes Johannesen had the Norwegians up 2-0 before Scheifele answered with two of his own in the first period to even it back up. Check out his second of the night:

Noah Steen put Norway back ahead 3-2 on a power play in the second. Gabriel Vilardi tied it on the man advantage off a Scheifele rebound:

Dylan Cozens gave Canada its first lead 31 seconds into the third on a shorthanded marker.

Norway didn’t go away. Steen and Tinus Luc Koblar scored less than two minutes apart to grab a 5-4 edge with under three minutes left.

Ryan O’Reilly forced overtime with 1:39 to play, redirecting a Celebrini shot from the point after Canada pulled goalie Cam Talbot for an extra attacker.

Scheifele talked about the comeback on the TSN broadcast after the game.

“Yeah, I felt a little bit snake bitten in the games before, but we have such a great team. Just a resilient effort by everyone, it was awesome to get the winner.”

The 33-year-old wrapped his NHL regular season with 103 points for the Jets. Thursday marked his first points of this tournament.

Canada now sits at 4-0 in Group B with 11 points after the Norway scare. Slovakia is next on Friday.
