Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman can’t seem to stay out of trouble with the league.

Hartman was handed a 10-game suspension by NHL Player Safety on Monday after a hearing. He’s been punished for a dirty play against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday where he stuffed Tim Stutzle’s face in the ice.

This is Hartman’s fifth career suspension and the longest one in Wild franchise history. He’ll have 48 hours to decide if he wants to appeal it, which seems likely. 10 games is a lot.

The incident happened at the end of the second period when Hartman and Stutzle were lining up for a face off. Instead of going for the puck when it was dropped, Hartman went right for his opponent’s head:

Ryan Hartman was given a five-minute “attempt to injure” match penalty and never returned. Stutzle stayed in the game, but he had blood oozing out from above his eye. Ottawa ultimately destroyed Minnesota, winning 6-0.

Since he is a repeat offender, Hartman will give up $487,804 in salary. Per Chris Johnston:

The 30-year-old Hartman has played in 48 games in 2024-25, scoring seven goals and tallying 10 assists. It was always expected he’d get a suspension for what occurred on the weekend, But I don’t think anyone believed it would be this long.

Before leaving the game, Hartman had three shots on goal. The Wild are having a respectable season, however, sitting in third place in the Central Division with a 31-18-4 record. They were on a three-game winning streak before the disappointing performance against the Senators.

If Hartman’s suspension stands, he’ll be eligible to return to play on March 9.
