Chris MacFarland wasted no time raiding his old team.
The Predators acquired forward Ross Colton and goalie Isak Posch from the Avalanche on Tuesday. Colorado gets the rights to goalie Magnus Chrona along with a third-round pick in 2026 and another in 2027.
This is the first significant move Nashville has made since hiring MacFarland as president of hockey operations and general manager on June 2. He ran Colorado for the previous four seasons, so he knows exactly what he is getting.
MacFarland talked about where Colton fits in the lineup after the deal closed.
“We are very excited to add Ross Colton to our forward mix,” MacFarland said. “Ross is a versatile, two-way winger who will add sandpaper and grit into our middle-six group.”
Colton, 29, put up 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) in 73 games for the Avalanche this season and chipped in five more points across 11 playoff games. He already owns a ring, winning the Cup with Tampa Bay in 2021.
Money is not really a factor here. Colton has one year left on the four-year, $16 million contract he signed in 2023, a $4 million cap hit, and he can reach unrestricted free agency next summer.
Posch sweetens the return for Nashville. The 21-year-old goalie played 28 games in the AHL for Colorado last season and gives the Preds another young arm to develop behind Juuse Saros.
