Jack Berglund is staying in Sweden.
The Flyers announced Monday that they have loaned the 20-year-old center to Färjestad BK of the SHL for the duration of Färjestad’s 2026-27 season, a move confirmed by general manager Daniel Briere. Sweden’s league starts earlier than the NHL, so Berglund will not be in Philadelphia for training camp next month.

That decision came from Berglund’s side. He had one year left on his Färjestad deal and wanted to honor it, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reported. Karlstad is his hometown, Färjestad is the club that developed him, and the season ended there with a playoff exit he did not enjoy.
Philadelphia took Berglund 51st overall in the 2024 draft and signed him to a three-year entry-level contract on April 9. Two days later he made his AHL debut with Lehigh Valley and finished with a goal in five games.
Sandwiched in between was the best month of his career. Berglund wore the C for Sweden at the World Junior Championship in January and led the group to gold, the country’s first since 2012. He piled up 10 points (three goals, seven assists) and a plus-9 rating in seven games, and Sweden did not lose a game before beating Czechia 4-2 in the final.

His club season was quieter. Berglund put up seven goals and five assists in 40 SHL games on 12:47 of ice time a night, though four of those goals won Färjestad the game. He added three assists in seven playoff outings, then suited up for Sweden at the men’s World Championship in May.
All of that hockey caught up with him. Berglund showed up at Flyers development camp in June and never put his skates on, and director of player development Riley Armstrong had no problem with it.
“Jack isn’t skating because he has played a lot of hockey in the last season. I think he played on four different teams, he put a lot of miles on, but he wanted to come, he wanted to be a leader.”
At 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds, Berglund is the best center prospect Philadelphia has behind a group that just handed Trevor Zegras the No. 1 job. His North American runway starts next spring, whenever Färjestad’s season ends and he heads back to Lehigh Valley.
