- New York gets forward prospect Massimo Rizzo and the 148th pick in the 2026 Draft
- Read below for what Edstrom brings to Nashville’s bottom six
The Nashville Predators went out and grabbed some size.
They acquired 6-foot-7 forward Adam Edstrom from the New York Rangers on Saturday, sending forward prospect Massimo Rizzo and the 148th overall pick in the 2026 Draft to New York. Both teams made it official during draft weekend.
Here’s the Predators announcing the deal:
Edstrom gives Nashville a different kind of body in the bottom six. He is one of the tallest players in the league, and he plays a heavy, physical game when he is on the ice.
Health has been the catch. A fractured ankle knocked Edstrom out from December to March last season, and he finished with five points in 35 games. Injuries held him to 51 games the year before that.
When he is in the lineup, the numbers read like a fourth-line grinder. Edstrom has 16 points, 58 blocked shots, and 189 hits across 97 career games, all with the Rangers.
Replacing some grit was part of the thinking here. Nashville shipped Zachary L’Heureux to Colorado earlier in the week in the deal that brought back Jack Drury, and Edstrom helps fill that physical void.
For the Rangers, the trade opens a spot up front. New York recently signed Pavel Dorofeyev after acquiring him from Vegas, and moving Edstrom clears the way for younger wingers to push for minutes.
The Rangers laid out their side of it:
Rizzo comes back as a depth piece and a pending free agent. Edstrom heads to Nashville on the final year of his two-year, $1.95 million contract, with a real shot at locking down a regular role in the bottom six.
