Chris MacFarland is back doing business with his old team.
The Nashville Predators acquired forward Jack Drury from the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. Nashville also picked up forward Chase Bradley and Colorado’s third-round pick in the 2029 draft. Colorado gets forwards Fedor Svechkov and Zachary L’Heureux back in return.
This is the second deal between the two front offices since the Predators hired MacFarland as their general manager on June 2. Nashville grabbed Ross Colton from Colorado a little over a week ago, and now MacFarland has gone right back to the well.
Drury fits exactly what Nashville has been chasing. The 26-year-old center put up 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 82 games this season and added five points across 13 playoff games during Colorado’s run.
He kills penalties, wins faceoffs, and handles the dirty-work stuff that keeps a bottom six honest. He can become a restricted free agent on July 1, so Nashville keeps his rights either way. Carolina drafted him in the second round back in 2018 before he landed in Denver.
Bradley is more of a depth flier. The 24-year-old racked up 42 points in 42 games with Colorado’s AHL club this season and has two NHL games on his resume. Detroit took him in the seventh round in 2020.
Here’s the Avalanche side of the announcement:
Colorado comes out of this a little younger up front. Svechkov, 23, had 17 points in 70 games for Nashville this year and signed a two-year deal in March that kicks in next season. L’Heureux, also 23, managed five points in 25 games and went 27th overall to the Predators in the 2021 draft.
MacFarland clearly knows where everything is buried in Colorado. He spent years building that Avalanche roster, and now he’s pulling pieces of it to Nashville one trade at a time.
