P.K. Subban is a New Jersey Devil.

Subban was traded to the Devils from the Nashville Predators on Saturday for defensemen Steven Santini and Jeremy Davies, a second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of P.K. Subban,” Devils general manager Ray Shero said of the defenseman. “Obviously, some of his legacy in terms of off-ice stuff is well known but on the ice he’s a competitor, he wants to win. I love the fact he hasn’t won a Stanley Cup yet and he’s hungry for that, and so are we.”

The move for Subban comes a day after the Devils took elite center prospect Jack Hughes with the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NHL Entry draft.

Subban is a top defenseman in the NHL, but the Predators have lots of talent on the blueline and simply couldn’t keep paying Subban the big money he’s making. Subban has three seasons left on an eight-year, $72 million contract  $9 million AAV) he signed with the Montreal Canadiens on Aug. 2, 2014. Nashville’s “Big Four” consisted of Subban, Roman Josi, Ryan Ellis and Mattias Ekholm.

Subban was previously traded to the Predators by the Canadiens for defenseman Shea Weber on June 29, 2016.
