Alex Ovechkin found a creative way to get Jakob Chychrun off the ice.

During the first period of Tuesday’s game against the Stars at Capital One Arena, Chychrun went feet-first into the boards behind the Capitals’ net while recovering a puck on a power play. The collision knocked the blade out of his right skate and left him stuck on the ice right in front of goaltender Logan Thompson.

Chychrun yelled for help. His captain answered by jabbing him in the rear with the end of his stick a couple of times and shoving him toward the bench.

Check out the push:

It’s hockey’s version of the Tush Push, the Eagles play where teammates shove Jalen Hurts over the pile. This one just involved a lot fewer people and a lot more Ovechkin.

The move saved the Capitals some time on the man advantage. Chychrun got to the bench for a fresh skate and Cole Hutson jumped on in his place with roughly 90 seconds left on the power play.

Chychrun didn’t let the equipment trouble slow him down. He finished with a game-high 26:50 of ice time, scored his second goal of the season on another power play and picked up his ninth assist on Ryan Leonard’s late third-period goal.

It wasn’t enough in the end. Washington lost 6-5, a game Jason Robertson turned with a natural hat trick for Dallas.

It’s the second notable Ovechkin shove in a week. Last Wednesday he put Flyers defenseman Hunter McDonald on the ice, though that one wasn’t a rescue mission.
