The betting market likes what the Oilers did this summer.
Roughly two weeks after the draft, Edmonton has made one of the biggest climbs on the Stanley Cup oddsboard. The Oilers jumped from +1200 to +900 on theScore Bet, and only three teams sit ahead of them.
Florida still leads the field at +650, with the Avalanche at +700 and the defending champion Hurricanes right behind at +750. Edmonton is next in line.
Washington made a similar leap, shortening from +1800 to +1200 after convincing Alex Ovechkin to run it back for a 22nd season:
Alongside Ovechkin, the Capitals brought in Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou and Boone Jenner. The market now reads them as a real Eastern Conference threat.
Edmonton’s summer wasn’t built on one splash. The Oilers hired Mike Babcock as head coach, a call Connor McDavid pushed for after another first-round exit.
They also shipped Darnell Nurse and his contract to the Sharks, clearing cap room and bringing back 24-year-old Shakir Mukhamadullin plus depth signing Ryan Shea. Then they signed Fredrik Andersen to steady the crease after his Cup win in Carolina.
McDavid, meanwhile, is locked in long term after inking his own extension last fall:
Here’s how the full board looks heading into the middle of July:
| Team | Odds (7/13) | Since 6/25 |
|---|---|---|
| Panthers | +650 | Even |
| Avalanche | +700 | Up |
| Hurricanes | +750 | Down |
| Oilers | +900 | Up |
| Golden Knights | +1000 | Up |
| Lightning | +1200 | Even |
| Capitals | +1200 | Up |
| Wild | +1400 | Down |
| Stars | +1600 | Even |
| Canadiens | +2500 | Down |
This is a team that lost back-to-back Cup Finals and got bounced in the first round this spring. At +900, the market believes Babcock and a retooled roster earn Edmonton one more crack at it.
