EA Sports dropped the NHL 27 soundtrack on Thursday, and the big change has nothing to do with the menu music. Real goal songs are in the game for almost every team.
Score with Chicago and “Chelsea Dagger” by The Fratellis rings out. Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant” follows an Islanders tally. “Zombie Nation” plays when Boston lights the lamp at TD Garden, which Maple Leafs fans probably needed to hear again.
A few of the one-off team anthems made it too. The Rangers’ “Slapshot,” a Madison Square Garden staple since 1995, is on the list, and so is “The Blues Have The Urge Goal Song (Let’s Go Blues)” by The Urge. Pantera’s “Puck Off,” written as the Dallas Stars theme, might be the loudest thing in the game.
Not everything survived licensing. AC/DC is nowhere on the list, which wipes out the tracks Columbus and Calgary lean on, and Detroit’s “Without Me” by Eminem is missing as well, as Daily Faceoff’s Tyler Kuehl noted.
The rest of the list runs wide. KISS, Motley Crue, Nickelback, The Offspring, Blur, The Black Keys, Wolfmother, Tim McGraw, Pitbull and DJ Khaled all show up.
Goal songs are one piece of a bigger presentation overhaul. EA rebuilt all 32 arenas around their own atmospheres this year, down to the light shows, chants and jumbotron packages, which the studio walked through in its August deep dive. Watch the full breakdown:
