Logan Stankoven has his first NHL hat trick.

The Hurricanes forward scored three times Thursday night as Carolina buried the Vancouver Canucks 7-2 at Lenovo Center, according to NHL.com’s game recap. He picked up the third goal at 11:36 of the third period.

Check out the moment it became official:

It was not your typical hat trick, either. Stankoven scored at even strength, on the power play and short-handed, which made him the fourth player in Hurricanes history to do it in one game. Sebastian Aho, Erik Cole and Sandis Ozolinsh are the others.

The short-handed goal came at 13:13 of the second period. Sean Walker slipped a pass through Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek, and Stankoven drove the net and scored top shelf. Walker’s setup was a ridiculous one, sliding the puck right under Hronek’s leg on a 2-on-1.

Here’s the Hurricanes’ own look at the pass:

Stankoven added a power-play goal at 19:02 of the second, roofing a shot off a no-look backhand feed from Taylor Hall. That made it 6-1. The hat trick-clincher came on a wrist shot from between the circles to make it 7-1.

The Hurricanes also pointed out he hit a personal mark on the night:

Carolina’s account tweeted that the night also got Stankoven to 100 career NHL points. The Hurricanes opened the season with Rod Brind’Amour telling them they were going to have to do something after an early loss, and this was the response.

Walker finished with four assists. Andrei Svechnikov scored two power-play goals in the first period, and K’Andre Miller and Mark Jankowski also scored. Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves.

Jake DeBrusk scored twice for Vancouver. Kevin Lankinen stopped 12 of 16 shots before Leevi Merilainen replaced him to start the third.

The Hurricanes are 3-1-1 and have won three straight. The Canucks fell to 2-3-0 and now start a six-game road trip.
