Leon Draisaitl is having a good summer.
The Oilers center and his wife, Celeste Desjardins, finally took their honeymoon this past week, and they went big. The couple headed to Kenya for a safari trip, about a year after tying the knot last summer.
Draisaitl and Celeste stayed at ol Donyo Lodge, one of Kenya’s most exclusive safari spots, tucked into Chyulu Hills National Park.
Draisaitl posted a batch of photos from the trip on Instagram:
Out on the plains, the two got up close with lions, giraffes, and elephants. They also took a helicopter ride over the region and set up a private dinner in the bush, surrounded by the animals.
This isn’t the first getaway for the pair this offseason. They joined Connor McDavid and his wife Lauren in the Hamptons earlier in the summer. The McDavids also squeezed in a trip to Utah once Edmonton’s season came to an end.
Celeste rounded up the rest of their summer, Hamptons included, over on her own account:
The downtime is earned. Draisaitl and the Oilers have been on the grind for years, with back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 2024 and 2025 cutting their summers short. A few weeks off the grid in Africa is about as far from a rink as it gets.
Edmonton will be back at it soon enough, still hunting the Cup that has twice slipped away. The roster tweaks are already underway back home. Draisaitl, meanwhile, is trading the ice for the savanna, and he looks plenty happy doing it.
