- Josh Allen fired up KeyBank Center with the Sabres’ ceremonial drum
- He pulled a beer from his back pocket and chugged it
- Read below for how the night ended for Buffalo
Josh Allen went full Buffalo on Tuesday night.
The Bills quarterback hit the ice at KeyBank Center before Game 2 of the Sabres’ first-round series against the Boston Bruins, wearing an Alex Tuch No. 89 jersey. He grabbed the “Let’s Go Buffalo” drum, pounded it with both sticks, then reached into his back pocket and pulled out a beer.
He chugged it in front of a packed house that lost its mind.
Watch the scene below:
Allen had been talking for days about wanting to get to a Sabres playoff game. He showed up Monday at Bills media availability in full Sabres gear and said he hoped to make Game 2 after missing Game 1 while on a plane. He made good on it and then some.
This is peak Buffalo. Crossover sports love, pocket beers, and a quarterback acting exactly like the fans who pay to watch him on Sundays.
Now for the bad news.
The Sabres lost 4-2. Boston ripped off three goals in the second period, added another 16 seconds into the third, and the comeback attempt fell short despite late goals from Bowen Byram and Peyton Krebs. The series is tied 1-1 heading to Boston.
It would not be a real Buffalo sports story without the heartbreak chaser. The Bills have spent three decades perfecting the art of getting their fans’ hopes up before pulling the rug out. The Sabres, apparently, took notes.
I’d still take Allen as the ceremonial drummer every night. The energy he brought was worth every minute of it, and the Sabres had no business looking that flat after the crowd he inherited. Boston is a lot more beatable than this game made it look.
