Morgan Geekie is probably still wondering how that one went in.
The Bruins winger flipped the puck from his own side of the red line late in the second period of Game 2 against the Sabres, turned to change lines, and watched it skip up and over Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s glove for a goal.
That made it 2-0 Boston at 16:29 of the second, with David Pastrnak and Sean Kuraly picking up assists on a play that barely felt like one.
It is Geekie’s second playoff goal in as many games. He posted one goal and two assists in the Game 1 loss, a night the Bruins let slip after Buffalo poured in four straight third-period goals to steal a 4-3 win.
This one felt different. The center-ice stunner came just under two minutes before Pavel Zacha tipped in another Pastrnak feed to push the lead to 3-0 heading into the third.
Viktor Arvidsson opened the scoring earlier in the period with a backhand of his own, then added another 16 seconds into the third that chased Luukkonen from the Buffalo crease.

Luukkonen had been a steadying presence for Buffalo all year. This one will sting. The puck flipped off Geekie’s backhand, took a kind bounce, and skipped over the glove like a bad hop grounder. According to NHL.com’s video of the play, the release came right off the center ice faceoff dot.
Geekie knew right away. His bench swallowed him up a few strides later.
Game 3 heads back to Boston on Thursday.
