The Red Wings lost John Gibson to another injury.
Detroit announced Tuesday night that the goaltender suffered a lower-body injury against the Tampa Bay Lightning and will not return to the game. The team did not say how long he could be out.
Here’s the update from the Red Wings:
Gibson played the entire first period and gave up two goals to Brayden Point, who scored at 7:54 and 13:01. Detroit trailed 2-0 when the period ended, and Daniil Tarasov was in net by the early minutes of the second.
It’s not clear when Gibson got hurt. The team hasn’t said whether it happened on one of the Point goals or later in the period.
This is the second goalie injury for Gibson in less than two weeks. He left the Red Wings’ win over Vancouver on Oct. 22 with an upper-body injury, and rookie Michal Postava made his NHL debut in relief.
Gibson is 4-5-1 with a 3.37 goals-against average and a .860 save percentage in 10 games before Tuesday. Tarasov is the next man up, and Detroit would need to recall a goalie from Grand Rapids if Gibson misses time.
