JJ Peterka didn’t waste any time making an impression in Boston.
The winger scored a filthy goal for his first as a Bruin on Tuesday night, walking in on Igor Shesterkin and beating him in tight to help Boston blank the Rangers 3-0 in the season opener at TD Garden.

Elias Lindholm and Hampus Lindholm picked up the assists at 17:06 of the third. It was the middle of three Boston goals in a span of 1:15, after 56-plus minutes of scoreless hockey.
Fraser Minten got it started with 3:46 remaining, beating Shesterkin stick side from the slot. Mark Kastelic added an empty-netter 23 seconds after Peterka’s goal to close it out.

Jeremy Swayman was the reason it stayed 0-0 that long. He made 24 saves for the 19th shutout of his NHL career, including back-to-back stops on Pavel Dorofeyev and J.T. Miller midway through the third.
Shesterkin was nearly as good at the other end. He finished with 20 saves and robbed Casey Mittelstadt with the glove on a 2-on-1 before Boston finally broke through.
Boston acquired Peterka from Utah on June 26 for the No. 23 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a conditional 2028 first-rounder. The 24-year-old had 25 goals and 47 points in 82 games with the Mammoth last season, one year after putting up 27 goals and 68 points in Buffalo.
Minten had a strong night too, finishing with a goal and an assist in 14:48 after the Bruins locked him up earlier this month.
Peterka logged 17:09 in his Bruins debut. One shot was all he needed.
