Connor McDavid has been nothing short of outstanding in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Edmonton Oilers, and that’s carried over to the Finals against the Florida Panthers.

McDavid tallied a pair of helpers in Game 1 and reached an impressive milestone in Game 2. With his first assist of the contest in the first period, the veteran hit 30 points in these playoffs. That’s the third time in his career he’s collected a minimum of 30 points in the postseason, becoming only the third player ever to do so.

Who are the other two? Only Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.

Historic:

Messier also did it three times, while “The Great One” posted 30+ points in the playoffs six times. Yes, you read that correctly. Talk about clutch.

Connor McDavid’s assist to make history was also absolutely filthy. The centre undressed Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad before setting up Leon Draisaitl for the goal:

McDavid is truly in a league of his own, and it’s not even fair. With the game currently tied 4-4 heading into 2OT, McDavid already has three assists. He’s up to four points in the Stanley Cup Finals and 33 in the playoffs.

He also made history with his third helper of the contest:

While the three-time Hart Trophy winner hasn’t scored a ton of goals in 2024-25, he’s making up for it with his brilliant playmaking. If he keeps this up in the Finals, it’s hard to imagine the Oilers losing.

Another Conn Smythe Trophy could also be coming his way when it’s all said and done.
