The Flyers might already be out of the Dylan Larkin sweepstakes.
Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reported Sunday that Philadelphia has doubts about its standing with the Red Wings captain:
“Per a source, the Flyers do not believe they are on Dylan Larkin’s ‘short list’ at the moment,” Kurz wrote. He added that things can always change.
Larkin asked out of Detroit earlier this week. His no-movement clause means he controls where he goes, and the Red Wings can only deal with teams he signs off on.
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic said Friday that Steve Yzerman already has the names in hand:
Philadelphia looked like a fit on paper. The Flyers made the playoffs this spring, and they have the young pieces Detroit would want back in a deal for its captain.
Minnesota keeps coming up instead. Elliotte Friedman has already floated a frontrunner, saying the trade “has the Wild written all over it.”
Detroit’s captain finished the season with 34 goals and 67 points in 74 games, his fifth straight year clearing 30 goals. His $8.7 million cap hit runs through 2030-31. Whoever makes Larkin’s list is getting a No. 1 center in his prime.
