Elliotte Friedman already has a frontrunner for Dylan Larkin.

On Friday’s 32 Thoughts podcast, the Sportsnet insider said the Red Wings captain’s trade request “has the Wild written all over it,” calling Minnesota “the No. 1 team everybody’s looking at.”

Here’s the episode where Friedman made his case:

Minnesota isn’t the only name on the board. Friedman said Dallas and Tampa Bay weren’t impossible either, but the Wild keep coming up first.

Friedman was also asked what a deal might cost the Wild. “It’s like, Yurov, Stramel, who knows what else,” he said. Danila Yurov and Charlie Stramel would headline the return, with more pieces likely attached.

Larkin requested a trade out of Detroit earlier this week, the only NHL franchise he has ever played for. Friedman pointed to the team’s lack of playoff success as a factor in the captain wanting out.

Detroit handed Larkin the C in 2021 and built its room around him. The Wings ditched their rotating letters last fall and made him the centerpiece of the leadership group:

There’s one more wrinkle. Larkin holds a full no-trade clause for the next two seasons, so he controls where he lands. Minnesota might be driving the talk, but the captain picks his own exit.
