Nikita Grebenkin is done for a while in Philadelphia.
The Flyers announced Saturday that the winger had successful back surgery and will be out at least four months. He hasn’t played a game this season.
Grebenkin is 23 and just signed a two-year contract that carries a $1.1 million cap hit. Back in July he was expected to be healthy for camp, so this is a real step backward.
The team dropped several other injury updates at the same time. Travis Konecny (lower body) and Cam York (upper body) are both day-to-day, and neither dressed for Saturday’s game in Boston.
Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body) went on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 3. Helge Grans was activated from injured non-roster status to take his spot on the roster.
Konecny’s absence stings most. He had 27 goals and 41 assists in 77 games last season and has led Philadelphia in points every year since 2020-21.
The injuries landed on a team that can’t buy a win. Boston beat the Flyers 5-1 at TD Garden, with Fraser Minten scoring and adding two assists. Porter Martone got the lone Philadelphia goal on the power play.
That left the Flyers at 0-4-2. We broke down the damage in numbers on our timeline:
Philadelphia has been outscored 24-7 and outshot 219-121 across those six games. Head coach Rick Tocchet already told the group it was way too comfortable after the first losses, and nothing has changed since.
The Flyers play again Sunday with Konecny, York and Ristolainen all doubtful.
