- Darren Dreger says Detroit wants three or four pieces for Dylan Larkin
- Connor Hellebuyck’s price in Winnipeg has not changed, per David Pagnotta
- Read below for the full asking prices and where both trade requests stand
We finally have a number on Dylan Larkin. TSN’s Darren Dreger said Thursday the Red Wings want three or four pieces back, and he laid out exactly what that looks like.
Dreger was asked what interim general manager Shawn Horcoff is hoping to get for the Detroit captain.
“Three or four pieces. That’s standard operating procedure when you’re talking about a player of this significance,” Dreger said. “You’re talking about two ‘A’-quality prospects, you’re looking at a top-nine forward who can play with the Red Wings in the NHL right now, and on top of all of that, a first-round draft pick.”
Dreger said he believes some clubs would pay that. He also pointed out the catch. Plenty of teams are interested, but they are not on the list of destinations Larkin will accept.
Larkin signed an eight-year extension that runs through 2031 at an $8.7 million cap hit, so the contract only adds to the appeal. Detroit also locked up Alex DeBrincat on a seven-year extension this week, which left Larkin as the big unfinished piece.
NHL Network’s David Pagnotta gave the Winnipeg side of the trade request market on First Shift. He was asked about the Jets’ asking price for Connor Hellebuyck.
Pagnotta said the Jets are in a strong spot with how they are playing and that he does not think the price has changed. Winnipeg wants immediate help in a package, a second-line caliber player or maybe two, plus young assets. He added that the structure could shift toward one immediate piece and a bigger futures package if the sides want to speed things up.
Watch Pagnotta’s full segment:
Hellebuyck still has not reported to Winnipeg and keeps forfeiting salary under a team suspension for missing camp. Dreger said he does not expect to see him back with the Jets, and he praised general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff for patience while offers and tire kickers come and go. We covered one of those earlier in the week, when the Kings reportedly kicked the tires.
The Larkin side has had its own twist. Pagnotta reported Montreal was ready to move if Larkin said yes, and Larkin and his family kept saying no.
Larkin has played five games for Detroit this season with one goal and three points, and the Red Wings fans booed him at the home opener. Two stars want out, two teams want a haul, and neither deal has a destination yet.
