Dylan Larkin’s list of preferred trade destinations just got longer.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said this week that the Red Wings captain is willing to go to more teams than previously known, putting the total group at around eight.
Friedman broke down the update on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, laying out who’s actually on Larkin’s list beyond the names already out there.
“One of the things I’ve heard about Larkin is that there are more teams that he’s willing to go to than have been reported. I think some of the other teams that are there are Colorado, Washington, and I suspect, in case people didn’t know them already, Dallas and Tampa. So I don’t know how big that list is, but it’s bigger than that’s been reported. I think it’s somewhere around eight.”

That’s on top of Vegas, Minnesota and Florida, the three teams originally tied to Larkin’s camp. Here’s our breakdown of the new list:
Washington and Colorado bring two very different pitches. The Capitals still have their full set of draft picks and a lesser Larkin replacement already on the roster in Dylan Strome, giving them real material to work with. Colorado offers the better hockey fit since the Avalanche are built to win right now, but they have no first-round pick in the next two years and a cap sheet that’s already stretched thin.
None of it points to anything happening soon. The teams with the cap room to take on Larkin’s $8.7 million hit aren’t the ones on his list, and the teams that are on it are short the draft capital or cap space to get a deal done before puck drop.
Larkin gave up the Red Wings captaincy over the summer as his trade request played out, and Detroit chose to open the season without naming a replacement. Interim GM Shawn Horcoff has said he isn’t looking to move Larkin just to move him.
The math hasn’t changed much since spring. Larkin’s stuck in Detroit at $8.7 million a season until a team on his list finds a way to actually afford him.
