Somebody in Philadelphia is already picturing Connor McDavid in orange and black.

Todd Fedoruk said it on the radio this week. The former Flyers enforcer, who now works as the team’s color man on 97.5 The Fanatic, floated McDavid as a player Philadelphia could go after.

Fedoruk was talking about the Flyers needing a true franchise center when he brought up the Oilers captain.

“He is going to be a player who will be calling teams. His agent is going to be looking for him to go places. There are rumors that Philadelphia is a place that Connor McDavid wants to go,” Fedoruk said.

Here’s the clip:

This is radio talk, not a report from an insider. Nobody has said McDavid asked out, and the Oilers have no reason to trade the best player alive. Edmonton built its entire roster around him.

There’s still a reason the chatter keeps going. McDavid signed a two-year extension last October instead of a long-term deal. The contract carries a $12.5 million cap hit and runs through 2027-28.

Two years is short for a player of his standing. He could have locked in for eight. He didn’t. That choice is what keeps every fan base guessing, Philadelphia included.

The Flyers have the cap room and have made no secret about wanting to be a destination again. Danny Briere spent the summer reshaping the roster and has hinted the work isn’t finished. A run at McDavid would be the swing to end all swings.

One look at what McDavid does to defenses explains why any GM would empty the cupboard:

None of this is close to a trade. It’s a Philly broadcaster on a Philly station having some fun. But McDavid’s decision to sign short instead of long is exactly why the wondering never stops.
