The best scorer left on the free agent market is off the board.

New Jersey signed Anthony Mantha to a two-year contract worth $9.5 million on Wednesday. The deal carries a $4.75 million cap hit.

The Devils made it official:

Mantha is coming off the best season of his career. He put up 33 goals and 64 points in 81 games for the Penguins last year, both personal bests across 13 NHL seasons.

That production looks even better when you remember where he was a year earlier. A torn ACL wrecked his 2024-25 season in Calgary and held him to 13 games. He bet on himself with a one-year, $1.25 million deal in Pittsburgh and cashed in.

Here’s every one of Mantha’s 33 goals from last season:

The Devils needed the scoring. New Jersey went 42-37-3 and missed the playoffs for a second straight year. Dropping a 6-foot-5 finisher who can slot up and down the lineup is a smart swing for a team trying to get back in.

Detroit took Mantha with the No. 20 pick in 2013, and he has bounced around since with stops in Washington, Vegas, Calgary and Pittsburgh. He was the top scorer still available in free agency this summer. Now he belongs to New Jersey for the next two years.
