Utah’s best prospect limped off the ice in Windsor.
Caleb Desnoyers left Canada’s final game at the World Junior Summer Showcase on Saturday after Wyatt Cullen fell and took his legs out from under him. The 2025 fourth overall pick went off late in the third period of a 7-2 loss to the United States with what appeared to be a left leg or knee injury.
Canada head coach Misha Donskov was asked about Desnoyers right after the game and had nothing concrete to offer.
“You never want to see something like that. I haven’t gotten a medical update on him yet but hopefully he’s OK,” Donskov said, per NHL.com’s Adam Kimelman.
The Mammoth open camp in about six weeks. Desnoyers was walking in with a real case for an NHL roster spot, and now the club spends the rest of its summer waiting on a diagnosis.
He earned that case in the QMJHL. Desnoyers piled up 78 points in 45 games with the Moncton Wildcats last season and sits at 218 points in 161 junior games across three years.
His international résumé is filling in too. Six assists in seven games at the 2026 World Juniors put him in line to split top-center duty with Flames prospect Cole Reschny at the 2027 tournament.

This is the second straight August that has gone sideways on him. Utah announced last Aug. 14 that Desnoyers needed wrist surgery and a 12-week recovery, which cost him training camp and pushed his junior season start into November.
Even at full health, he has traffic ahead of him down the middle. Logan Cooley runs the top line, Vincent Trocheck arrived from the Rangers this offseason and Barrett Hayton re-signed as a free agent.
A rule change gives NHL clubs the option to assign one teenager to the AHL, so the 19-year-old could develop in the minors instead of going back to junior. Moncton remains available as well.
The Mammoth should have an answer on Desnoyers well before camp opens next month.
