Cale Makar played Wednesday night for the Avalanche, and he did it on a day that started in a hospital.
The Avalanche defenseman became a father of twins earlier in the day, then played the Stars that night. Makar had missed Tuesday’s game while his wife was in labor, and he was back in the lineup roughly a day later.
Makar was asked how the game felt after everything that happened that morning.
“Felt really good,” Makar said. “I mean, it was a little bit different with the morning, that’s for sure. But felt really exciting, and it’s kind of a cool thought process. You have something to go back home to, so it’s pretty cool.”
Check out the post we shared when the twins news broke:
Makar finished plus-1 with two shots in 22:54 of ice time. He didn’t record a point, which is hard to hold against anyone on a day like that.
The game itself was a wild one. Colorado had two first-period goals overturned, and Landeskog finally put the Avs on the board in the second period. Miro Heiskanen tied it, Hyry scored short-handed after picking off a Makar pass at the blue line, and Brock Nelson forced overtime.
Roope Hintz won it for Dallas in the fourth round of the shootout, as we covered earlier. Makar also made his presence felt physically at one point, as this hit on Hintz in the corner shows:
Colorado also got a bit of bad injury news. Nicolas Roy missed the game with an upper-body injury, and coach Jared Bednar considers him day to day.
