The St. Louis Blues are putting a Hall of Famer to work in the front office.
The team announced Friday that it hired Sergei Zubov as an advisor to hockey operations. General manager Alexander Steen made the call, and he pointed straight at the resume.
Steen talked about what Zubov brings from both sides of his career:
“We are excited to bring in Sergei with the incredible resume he built over his Hall of Fame career as a player. As a coach he brings a unique skillset and experience that will be a valuable asset throughout our hockey operations group.”
Here’s the Blues making it official:
Zubov, 56, was one of the best defensemen of his era. He piled up 771 points across 16 NHL seasons, the most by any Russian defenseman in league history.
He broke in with the Rangers after they took him in the fifth round of the 1990 draft, then dropped 89 points in his second season while helping New York win the 1994 Stanley Cup. A short stop in Pittsburgh followed, then more than a decade in Dallas, where he won a second Cup in 1999.

This isn’t Zubov’s first tour with St. Louis. He worked as a team consultant with the Blues back in 2012-13, and later spent the 2019-20 season as a senior advisor with the Stars.
Most of his post-playing work has come behind a bench in the KHL. Zubov has been a head coach for SKA St. Petersburg, HK Sochi, and Dinamo Riga, and he spent last season as an assistant with Traktor Chelyabinsk.
Now he brings all of it back to St. Louis.
