The Avalanche are keeping Fabian Lysell around for at least one more year.
Colorado announced Sunday that it re-signed the 23-year-old forward to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season. Here is the team confirming the deal:
The signing locks up a player the Avs took a swing on just two weeks ago. Colorado grabbed Lysell’s rights from Boston on the second day of the 2026 draft and sent forward Ivan Ivan the other way.
Boston made Lysell the 21st pick in 2021, its only first-round selection between 2019 and 2024. He was the crown jewel of a thin Bruins prospect pool.
The kid could score, too. He put up 62 points in 53 games with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants right after the draft, then kept it going in the AHL with 37 points as a rookie and 50 in 56 games the next year.
His NHL leap never took, though. Lysell debuted in December of the 2024-25 season and finished with one goal and three points in 12 games. Boston kept handing him camp and preseason looks, but he could not crack the lineup for good.
Take a look at what Lysell brings when the puck is on his stick:
Colorado is betting a change of scenery is what he needs. He has the speed and the release, and a one-year deal is a low-risk way to see if a fresh room gets more out of him.
He will likely open the year in the AHL with Colorado, one strong stretch away from another NHL crack.
