The Bruins are moving on from a former first-round pick.

Boston traded winger Fabian Lysell to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday for forward Ivan Ivan. The deal landed during the second day of the 2026 NHL Draft.

Here’s the Bruins making it official:

Lysell went 21st overall to Boston back in 2021 and carried real hype as a fast, creative winger. He tore up the WHL with the Vancouver Giants and put up strong numbers in the AHL, but the jump to the NHL never clicked.

His entire big-league resume with the Bruins came down to 12 games and three points during the 2024-25 season. Lysell spent this past year back in Providence, where he posted 42 points in 57 games.

A change of scenery gives him a clean shot at cracking an NHL lineup. Colorado is betting the 23-year-old still has another gear left to find.

And the view from Colorado:

Ivan heads the other way as a steady depth center. The undrafted 24-year-old has nine points in 49 NHL games over the last two seasons and profiles as a defensive-minded fourth-liner.

He should slot into the bottom of Boston’s lineup without crowding the younger prospects. With Lysell out of the picture, the Bruins will lean on Matthew Poitras and Dans Locmelis to push for forward jobs.

Both Ivan and Lysell are pending restricted free agents, so this one is really a swap of signing rights ahead of July 1. The move comes after Boston reshaped its forward group earlier this offseason by landing JJ Peterka in a trade with the Mammoth.
