Buddy the Elf isn’t looking too good these days.
Hollywood legend Will Ferrell gave hockey fans a post-Christmas gift on Sunday night, showing up to the LA Kings game against the Flyers in his full Buddy the Elf getup. But this wasn’t the same cheery elf we remember from the holiday classic.
Ferrell, rocking the iconic green and yellow costume from the 2003 hit movie “Elf,” was spotted in the crowd at Crypto.com Arena with what appeared to be an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth. Safe to say this version of Buddy has seen better days.

When asked about his rough appearance, Ferrell stayed in character, telling FanDuel TV’s Carrlyn Bathe that it’s been a tough holiday season. But hey, he was hoping a Kings win might turn things around.

For those who somehow haven’t seen it, “Elf” is arguably one of the greatest Christmas movies ever made. It follows Buddy, a human raised by Santa’s elves, who heads to New York City to find his real dad. The film has become a holiday staple, right up there with “Home Alone” and “A Christmas Story.”
The 57-year-old actor has been a regular at Kings games for years, but this might be his most memorable appearance yet. Fans couldn’t get enough of seeing Buddy the Elf looking like he just finished a rough shift at the North Pole.
Social media exploded with reactions, with one fan tweeting, “Will Ferrell watching the Flyers front row smoking a cigarette in a buddy the elf costume is exactly what makes this sport amazing.”

And you know what? The Kings didn’t let Buddy down. They rallied for three straight goals to grab the win, proving that maybe all they needed was a little Christmas magic – even if it came from a somewhat disheveled elf.
For what it’s worth, this is exactly why we love Will Ferrell. The guy just gets it. He could’ve shown up in normal clothes like any other celebrity, but instead, he gave us this absolute gem of a moment that hockey fans won’t soon forget.
