Sennecke Hat Trick: Three Straight Goals in Ducks Opener

Beckett Sennecke did not need long to remind everyone what the Ducks have on their hands.

The 20-year-old winger scored three straight goals Sunday at Honda Center, a natural hat trick in Anaheim’s 6-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. It was the preseason opener for both clubs, part of the 65 games the league crammed into eight days.

Sennecke got going on the power play at 12:15 of the second, taking a feed from Leo Carlsson in front to put Anaheim up 3-2. He added a slap shot from just inside the blue line at 16:07.

His third came at 8:10 of the third period. Sennecke gloved down a Mikael Granlund pass, skated in and lifted the puck over Matthew Davis’ right shoulder.

That is a lot of finish from a player who was drafted two summers ago. Anaheim took Sennecke third overall in 2024, and he played all 82 games last season with 23 goals and 37 assists for 60 points.

Carlsson made his own statement earlier in the night. He walked down the slot untouched at 6:07 of the first and beat Eric Comrie high for a 2-1 lead, his first game action since Anaheim matched Philadelphia’s offer sheet.

Tristan Luneau finished with a goal and two assists, Jackson LaCombe had a goal and a helper, and Nico Myatovic added two assists. Laurent Brossoit stopped 21 shots.

San Jose led first. Eric Pohlkamp opened the scoring 1:37 in off an Ethan Cardwell feed, and Jimmy Huntington tied it 2-2 at 11:05 of the second after Brett Leason sprung him up the ice.

Comrie made 14 saves before Davis took over midway through the second and stopped 12 of the 16 he faced. The Sharks dressed a lineup heavy on Barracuda names. The Ducks did not, and the gap showed up on the scoreboard in a hurry.
