Call them the Bash Brothers.
Team USA’s Brady Tkachuk dapped up his brother Matthew after both players fought in the opening minute of Saturday’s game against Canada. The moment has created a viral GIF that will live in hockey history.
Canada vs USA opened in electrifying fashion with three fights in the first six minutes. Matthew Tkachuk started things out with a fight against Brandon Hagel off the faceoff. Brady Tkachuk followed his brother shortly after, dropping the mitts with Sam Bennett.
With Matthew Tkachuk already in the penalty box, Brady finished up his respective fight and came to join his bro. The younger Tkachuk brother dapped up his older brother before entering the box.

The 4 Nations tournament marked the brothers’ first official teaming since the 2023 NHL All-Star Game, allowing them to truly embrace their “Bash Brothers” identity. According to reports, the Tkachuk brothers mentioned in a group chat they would fight early vs Canada on Saturday.
The Tkachuk brothers aren’t well-liked in the NHL, but they are gaining respect, especially among fellow Americans. The brothers have a willingness to engage in “clean” violence – challenging opponents face-to-face rather than employing cheap shots. That’s a quality many NHL enforcers are lacking.
Brady Tkachuk racked up six hits in the game, while his older brother dished out a pair of bodychecks. Team USA went on to pull out a 3-1 victory. There is some concern for Matthew, however, as he didn’t play in the third period due to an upper-body injury.
Team USA has guaranteed a spot in the 4 Nations Gold Medal game, and you can bet there won’t be many more fisticuffs with the trophy in sight. But for now, we have this legendary Tkachuk dap GIF to save to our camera rolls for infinite enjoyment.
