- Tage Thompson said the motto means no job is too big or too small for anybody

Tage Thompson finally let the public in on the Sabres’ new motto.
Thompson was asked Friday morning about the “Everybody Ropes, Everybody Rides” slogan printed on the rally towels handed out to fans for Game 2 against the Montreal Canadiens at KeyBank Center.
“It means no job is too big or too small for anybody. That when everyone is willing to do the little things that aren’t always flashy — it shows the room that you care about winning and doing whatever it takes.”
The slogan started as a players-only thing. Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reported that the Sabres put it together at their team retreat after preseason ended, and Thompson sheepishly admitted Friday it probably should have stayed in the room.
Watch Thompson and his teammates break down the chemistry and Game 2 prep:
Alex Tuch had his own version when he met with reporters:
“To get wins, you have to have everyone ready to play and doing all the little things: blocking a shot, being physical, getting the puck deep, puck management. It’s a lot of little things that really add up to frustrate the opposition, especially when you have a lead.”
Buffalo carries plenty of swagger into Game 2. The Sabres knocked out the Bruins in six to clear the first round for the first time since 2007, then jumped on Montreal early in a 4-2 Game 1 win at KeyBank Center on Wednesday.
Through seven postseason games, Thompson has two goals and five assists with a plus-six rating. Puck drops at 7 p.m. ET as Buffalo tries to push the series lead to 2-0 before things head north of the border.
