Daniil Miromanov is heading home, and this time it’s signed.
SKA St. Petersburg announced Friday that the 29-year-old defenseman has agreed to a two-year contract, ending a five-year North American run that never turned into a full-time NHL job. The deal runs through the end of the 2027-28 season, per the KHL.

Russian reports pointed at SKA back in May, once it was clear his Calgary Flames deal wasn’t getting renewed. The paperwork took another three months.
Calling it a homecoming isn’t marketing spin. Miromanov played 43 games for SKA-Neva, the organization’s VHL affiliate, in 2019-20 before he ever crossed the Atlantic.
On Instagram, the club walked through the whole tour:
“We saw Danya with us in the VHL, then in the KHL, in the NHL and the AHL, and now we get to watch this really productive defenseman with SKA.”
Vegas signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and got him into 29 games over parts of three seasons. The Golden Knights sent him to Calgary in March 2024 as part of the return for Noah Hanifin.
His best NHL season came in 2024-25, when he dressed 44 times and put up two goals and seven assists.
Then it came apart. Calgary waived him last October after one appearance, nobody claimed him at a $1.25 million cap hit, and he spent the rest of the year with the AHL Wranglers.
That stretch actually went well. Miromanov posted 11 goals and 27 assists in 66 games, finally getting the heavy minutes the Flames never handed him.

He finishes his NHL career at 94 games, seven goals and 16 assists. He never dressed for an NHL playoff game.
The KHL half of his résumé is thicker than people remember. Miromanov put up 29 points in 73 games with HK Sochi across two stints, and St. Petersburg is buying the version of him that just scored 38 points in the AHL.
Familiar names are all over the SKA roster. Nikita Zaitsev, Rocco Grimaldi, Nikolay Goldobin, Joseph Blandisi and Valentin Zykov have all logged NHL time.

St. Petersburg opens the regular season at home against Lada on Sept. 5.
