Logan Stankoven keeps finding the back of the net, and now he owns a piece of NHL history.
The 23-year-old scored twice in Carolina’s 3-0 win over Philadelphia on Saturday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Second Round. Both goals counted toward a five-game playoff scoring streak that no NHL player his age or younger has ever pulled off.
Stankoven now has six goals through five games, already a career postseason high. He had five in 15 games last spring and three in 19 during Carolina’s 2024 run to the Eastern Conference Final.
“I’ve felt like, since the Olympic break, things have started to turn and pucks have started to go in,” Stankoven said, per NHL.com. “As a player, I’ve been learning what areas of the ice to find to get shots off.”
He opened the scoring just 1:31 into the first, tipping a Mike Reilly one-timer past Dan Vladar from the slot. His second came at 16:16 of the second on a quick shot from the right hash marks after a Seth Jarvis feed, pushing the Hurricanes ahead 3-0.
Frederik Andersen took care of the rest. The Hurricanes goalie stopped all 19 shots he faced for his second shutout of these playoffs and the seventh of his postseason career. Carolina has not lost a game this spring after sweeping the Senators in Round 1.
Here’s the full Game 1 video recap:
Jackson Blake added a goal and an assist, splitting Travis Sanheim and Matvei Michkov on a sharp backhand at 7:30 of the first. Reilly chipped in two assists.
Philadelphia coach Rick Tocchet did not sugarcoat what he saw.
“We weren’t quick enough for their speed,” Tocchet said. “Our reaction was a little bit slow. I don’t know if we were mentally prepared to play tonight.”
The Flyers played without forward Owen Tippett, who is dealing with an undisclosed injury. Game 2 goes Monday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
