Sidney Crosby will go down as one of the best to ever do it in the NHL and on Wednesday, he made more history, surpassing Wayne Gretzky in the process.

Crosby, who is in Year 20, moved into fourth all-time in points with a single franchise at 1,670. He scored a nasty goal in the first period to give the Pens a 2-0 lead:

Gretzky had 1,669 points in his career with the Edmonton Oilers. The only ones above Sid The Kid are Mario Lemieux with 1,723 (Penguins), Steve Yzerman with 1,755 points (Detroit Red Wings), and Gordie Howe with 1,899, also with the Red Wings.

Sidney Crosby might be 37 years old, but he hasn’t missed a beat in 2024-25. He has 24 goals to go along with 50 assists. Crosby also played a crucial part in helping Canada win the inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off in February.

Pittsburgh drafted the Nova Scotia native first overall way back in 2005 and he’s been absolutely electric ever since, even as he’s aged. Crosby helped lead the Penguins to Stanley Cup titles in 2009, 2016, and 2017. Crosby is a born winner.

Despite being the oldest player on the roster, Crosby leads the Pens in points with 74. But, it seems they will likely miss out on the playoffs, even though the organization is playing a lot better as of late.

Retirement isn’t too far in the future for Sidney Crosby but he has openly voiced he’d like to keep playing. If Sid The Kid does come back for 2025-26, there’s a realistic chance he will surpass Lemieux.

When it’s all said and done, I’d say Crosby deserves a statue in The Steel City.
