Sergei Bobrovsky’s run in Florida is over.

The Panthers acquired Jacob Markstrom from the Devils on Tuesday, and the move closed the door on any reunion with Bobrovsky.

With Markstrom and Akira Schmid slotted in as the new tandem, the two-time Stanley Cup winner will test free agency Wednesday for the first time in his career.

Florida made the move official itself:

Bobrovsky is wrapping up the seven-year, $70 million contract he signed with Florida back in 2019. He turns 38 in September.

He cashed in big the last time he reached the open market:

Reports have him chasing another long-term deal, a tall order for a goalie his age coming off a rough season.

He went 27-23-1 last year with an .877 save percentage and a 3.07 goals-against average, his worst numbers since landing in Sunrise.

Edmonton, Buffalo, Los Angeles and Toronto have all been floated as possible fits. The Oilers in particular have been hunting for a true starter for a while now.

A rough season doesn’t erase what he did with the Panthers. Bobrovsky backstopped back-to-back Cups in 2024 and 2025 and started every playoff game during the repeat run. Add the two Vezina Trophies he won in Columbus, and any team signing him is betting the playoff version still shows up.

The market opens Wednesday at noon, and Bobrovsky is the biggest goalie on the board.
