The Sedin twins are climbing another rung in Vancouver.
Henrik and Daniel Sedin accepted larger front office roles with the Canucks, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on Monday’s 32 Thoughts podcast and Daily Faceoff’s Irfaan Gaffar.
On the podcast, Friedman said Monday could be a “big day” for Vancouver’s internal structure, with the team close to finalizing both a new general manager and a reshuffled leadership group around him.
Gaffar followed up by confirming the twins agreed over the weekend. “The structure of what they are trying to do is starting to take shape,” he wrote.
Specific titles haven’t been locked in. Friedman compared the setup to what Toronto has built around John Chayka, where Mats Sundin holds a senior advisory role and vice president duties but isn’t running the team day-to-day.
Both have been working their way up the org chart since rejoining the team in 2021-22 as special advisors to then-GM Patrik Allvin. They shifted into player development the following year, then got pulled into day-to-day coaching and power-play work under Rick Tocchet in 2024.
Here’s Friedman expanding on the news later in the day on The FAN Hockey Show:
These promotions land in the middle of a busy stretch in Vancouver. Jim Rutherford is stepping down as president of hockey ops after the 2026 draft, Allvin was fired in April after a last-place NHL finish, and the GM chase is down to Evan Gold and Ryan Johnson. The Sedins will be part of whatever structure the new boss inherits.
