Jonathan Quick is staying in New York.
The Rangers hired Quick as their director of goaltending development, per Mollie Walker of the New York Post. The move comes just a few months after the two-time Stanley Cup winner announced his retirement following the 2025-26 season.
Walker added that the Rangers had wanted Quick in the role since near the end of last season and only needed time to sort out the specifics.
The job keeps Quick with the club that housed the last three seasons of his 19-year playing career. He spent most of that run in Los Angeles, where he backstopped the Kings to titles in 2012 and 2014 and took home the Conn Smythe in 2012.
That 2012 season was the best of his career. Quick went 35-21-13 with a 1.95 goals-against average, a .929 save percentage and a league-high 10 shutouts. Between 2010 and 2020 he ranked third among all goalies in goals-against average and fourth in games played.
Quick finished second in Vezina voting that 2012 season to a familiar name. That name was Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers great who now works in the same organization Quick is joining. The goalie who edged him for the trophy is one of his new coworkers.
New York has young goaltending it wants to grow. Dylan Garand signed a two-year extension this offseason, and Quick’s new job is to help bring that next wave along.
