Vancouver Canucks centre JT Miller is heading back to the Big Apple.

Miller, who has been in trade rumors for the last few weeks amid a reported rift with teammate Elias Pettersson, has been sent to the New York Rangers in return for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a conditional first-rounder. Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington are also heading to NY in the deal. Here’s the full package:

The drama between Miller and Pettersson had been affecting the club both on and off the ice and clearly, the 31-year-old was open on a return to his former team, waiving his no-trade clause.

As a member of the Rangers for six seasons, Miller had 72 goals and 100 assists in 341 appearances. In 2024-25 however, his production has been poor, scoring a mere nine goals and supplying 26 assists in 40 appearances.

Canucks president Jim Rutherford made it crystal clear a trade was likely coming earlier this week when he told the Globe and Mail that “it certainly appears like there’s not a good solution that would keep this group together.”

It’s an unfortunate end to Miller’s tenure with Vancouver. He enjoyed a career campaign in 2023-24, netting 37 goals and tallying 66 assists, helping the Canucks surprisingly win the Pacific Division, which seemingly came out of nowhere.

Canucks fans have grown frustrated with Miller this season due to his struggles and carefree attitude in interviews. Perhaps a fresh start in a familiar place can help the veteran find his best again.

Chytil meanwhile is seen as an immediate replacement for Miller, but he’s dealt with a lot of injuries in his career.
