Sidney Crosby has worn the Penguins’ C for so long that the calendar is about to do something ridiculous with it.
Josh Yohe of The Athletic pointed at one date on Pittsburgh’s 2026-27 schedule: March 25, a home game against New Jersey. Starting that night, Crosby will have spent more than half of his life as captain of the Penguins.
The math is clean. Pittsburgh handed Crosby the captaincy on May 31, 2007, when he was 19 years and 297 days old, the youngest player ever given the job at that point. Add those exact same 19 years and 297 days to that date and you land in the last week of March 2027.
Yohe wasn’t treating it as a stat so much as a way to frame what Crosby has been:
“Not sure any athlete has ever blended precociousness with longevity quite like him.”
The Devils game is a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at PPG Paints Arena, the middle night of a three-game homestand. Nothing on the grid marks it.
2026-27 is Crosby’s 20th season wearing the letter and the final year of the two-year, $8.7 million extension he signed in September 2024. He turns 39 on Friday.
He also hasn’t slowed down enough to make any of this feel like a farewell tour. Crosby put up 74 points in 68 games last season and sits at 654 goals and 1,761 points in 1,420 career games, all of it in one sweater.
