- Egor Chinakhov signs a three-year deal worth $6.25 million per season
- Penguins also lock up Arturs Silovs, David Gustafsson and Joel Blomqvist
- Read below for how Chinakhov’s Pittsburgh debut earned him the raise
The Penguins locked up one of their best midseason additions.
Pittsburgh signed Egor Chinakhov to a three-year contract on Saturday, GM Kyle Dubas announced. The deal runs through 2028-29 and carries a $6.25 million cap hit.
Chinakhov wasn’t the only one to put pen to paper. The Penguins also signed goaltender Arturs Silovs to a one-year deal, forward David Gustafsson to a one-year deal, and goaltender Joel Blomqvist to a two-year contract. All four sidestepped arbitration in the process.
The 25-year-old winger is coming off a career year. He set new highs across the board with 72 games, 21 goals, 21 assists and 42 points split between Columbus and Pittsburgh.
Most of that damage came after the trade. Pittsburgh grabbed Chinakhov from the Blue Jackets on December 29 for Danton Heinen, a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 third. He answered with 36 points in 43 games, which ranked third on the team in both goals and points over that stretch.
Nick Robertson was the only Penguin to file for arbitration before Saturday’s deadline. Dubas cleared the rest of his to-do list without a hearing, on the heels of re-signing Hendrix Lapierre earlier in the week.
Chinakhov is under contract through 2029 now, and the Penguins are betting the second half of his season was the real version.
