- Florida sends back a 2026 fifth and a 2027 fourth, with Philadelphia keeping half his salary
- Read below for what the rugged winger adds in South Florida
Florida keeps stacking the deck.
The Panthers acquired forward Garnet Hathaway and a 2026 sixth-round pick from the Flyers on Thursday. Bill Zito sent Philadelphia a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick to get it done, and the Flyers are eating half of Hathaway’s salary on the way out.
Florida made it official:
Zito spoke about what the 34-year-old brings to the room.
“Garnet is a physical and highly competitive player who will complement our group well,” Zito said. “We’re excited to add his veteran presence to our group for the upcoming season.”
Hathaway led the Flyers with 252 hits last season, the ninth-most among all NHL skaters. He finished with three points in 66 games, which was never really the point with him.
The Panthers laid out his profile:
He was Philadelphia’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy nominee this year and chipped in two points over eight playoff games this spring.
The move fits what Florida has been building all week. The Panthers added Brady Tkachuk a few days ago to skate with his brother Matthew, and now there’s another guy who plays on the edge to throw into that mix.
Philadelphia confirmed its side of the trade:
Hathaway has built a career on being the guy nobody enjoys lining up against. Florida just got a lot harder to play.
