Matt Boldy found a lie at a golf tournament that would rattle just about anyone holding a wedge.
The Minnesota Wild forward ended up in the grandstands at the American Century Championship on Saturday. His ball settled behind a protective railing, which left him to chip up and over the rail just to get back to the green.
He pulled it off. Boldy lofted the ball over the railing and dropped it onto the putting surface, nearly holing the whole thing. Fans behind him lost it and sent him off with a row of high fives.
Watch Boldy play it where it lies:
The celebrity event runs through Sunday at Edgewood Tahoe. Boldy walked the course with Florida Panthers brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, his USA Hockey teammates from the Olympic gold medal run. The trio brought the medals along and showed them off around the resort.
The chip aside, Boldy handled his round just fine. He finished Round 2 tied for 13th with actor Alfonso Ribeiro at 27 points. Joe Pavelski, the defending champ and the top hockey name in the field, sat second with 48. Retired tennis pro Mardy Fish led everyone at 52.
Real hockey is still a couple months off for the Wild. Boldy’s short game, though, looks ready to go right now.
