Matt Boldy found a second use for his Olympic gold medal, and it had nothing to do with hockey.

During Sunday’s final round at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, the Minnesota Wild forward pulled the gold he won with Team USA out of his pocket, set it down to mark his ball on the green, and calmly rolled in the putt.

Watch Boldy turn a gold medal into a ball marker:

The 24-year-old closed the celebrity event ninth in the overall standings with 43 points, playing under the tournament’s modified scoring that rewards birdies and eagles over straight strokes.

That was the strong finish. A day earlier, Boldy chipped a ball over a railing and onto the green like something out of Happy Gilmore, then buried the putt for a round of high-fives.

Former tennis pro Mardy Fish took the title with 72 points, his third win at the event. Retired NHL forward Joe Pavelski, the defending champion, came second with 66, and Stephen Curry landed third.

The event crowned its champion Sunday:

Boldy had plenty of company from the hockey world. Gold medal teammates Matthew and Brady Tkachuk both played, with Matthew tying for 22nd and Brady tying for 58th in the 90-man field. Retired forward T.J. Oshie tied for 28th, and NHL superfan Charles Barkley finished 69th.

Minnesota’s top-six winger is coming off another strong season and enters his sixth NHL year this fall. The short game, at least, is already in midseason form.
