Sergei Bobrovsky is a Maple Leaf.

Toronto signed the two-time Stanley Cup champion to a three-year contract Wednesday on the opening day of free agency, with an annual cap hit of $7 million. ESPN’s Kevin Weekes broke the news minutes after the market opened.

Weekes laid it out:

The money came into focus fast. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman filled in the numbers right after:

Bobrovsky is coming off a seven-year, $70 million deal with the Panthers, the richest goalie contract in franchise history at the time. The early years in South Florida were rocky. The finish was anything but.

He backstopped Florida to back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025, saving his sharpest hockey for the biggest games. That run rewrote how people remember the deal that once looked like an albatross.

The 37-year-old carries a career record of 456-266-58 with 53 shutouts across 806 games and 16 seasons. He won two Vezina Trophies and finished as a Hart Trophy finalist during his years in Columbus.

In Toronto, Bobrovsky reunites with Anthony Stolarz, his old Florida teammate. The two shared a crease during the 2023-24 Cup run before Stolarz left for the Leafs, and now they form Toronto’s new goalie tandem.

We flagged Bobrovsky as one of the top names set to reach the open market once Florida moved on. He lands with a franchise that has spent years hunting for an answer in net.

Toronto is betting a 37-year-old with two rings still has championship goaltending left in the tank.
