Logan Mailloux is banged up two days before the Blues have to set their opening night roster.
Mailloux left Saturday’s preseason finale against the Blackhawks with an upper-body injury, and it happened in a fight he didn’t back away from.
Chicago’s Cole Smith tripped Blues defenseman Philip Broberg with 6:18 left in the first period, and Mailloux jumped in right after. He and Smith traded punches before the referees separated them.
Smith was hit with a tripping minor and a fighting major. Mailloux added an instigator penalty and a 10-minute misconduct on top of his own fighting major.

St. Louis confirmed Mailloux wouldn’t return for the second period, then announced the upper-body injury a short time later:
Chicago went on to win 3-2, and the Blues finished the final two-plus periods with just five defensemen.
It’s unclear how serious the injury is. Mailloux hasn’t been placed on injured reserve yet, but he’s eligible for a retroactive move since he hadn’t played in six days before Saturday.
That would let St. Louis avoid an extra roster cut before Monday’s 4 p.m. opening night deadline, and it could open a spot for prospect Adam Jiricek to make the team out of camp.
Any real absence would sting. Mailloux just wrapped his first full-time NHL season, putting up five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 67 games while logging just under 17 minutes a night, and he was ticketed for a top-four role again in 2026-27.
The Blues got Mailloux from Montreal in July 2025 in a deal that sent Zachary Bolduc back to the Canadiens, who later signed Bolduc to a four-year extension.
The season opener is Friday in Dallas, and Mailloux’s health will decide whether he’s in that lineup.
