The Flyers picked a side in the tucked-jersey debate, and it wasn’t the NHL’s.
Every player on Philadelphia’s roster skated out for warmups Saturday against the Washington Capitals with his jersey tucked into his pants. One of them held up a sign for the cameras with a message for teammate Trevor Zegras.

The bit traces back to Thursday’s preseason game against the Bruins. Zegras took a two-minute minor for “improperly wearing equipment” after coming back from the bench with his jersey still tucked in, a habit he’s carried through most of his career.

Zegras had already gotten a warning about it earlier in the game. He explained what happened once reporters asked him about it afterward.
“Yeah, because I started the game, obviously, with it tucked, because that’s how I usually play. It must have just went back in on the bench and then when I came out, just forgot, and called it.”
Flyers coach Rick Tocchet got asked about it too, and he wasn’t hiding how silly he thought the whole thing was.
“The days of Gretzky and the tucks don’t work anymore. You get a penalty.”
Tocchet isn’t taking chances on a repeat. He said he personally fixed Matvei Michkov’s jersey on the bench that same night, since Michkov tucks his in too, and the team is adding tie-downs to keep everyone’s sweater in place for good.
Philadelphia wraps up the preseason with Saturday’s game before opening the regular season on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sept. 30. Judging by the warmup, nobody in that locker room is losing sleep over the NHL’s new fashion rule.
